Azerbaijani grandmaster wins tournament in Las Vegas
The 32-year-old Azerbaijani grandmaster Vasif Durarbeyli won a brilliant victory at the prestigious international tournament Las Vegas International, in Las Vegas, the US.
Having scored 7.5 points in nine games, Durarbeyli took first place, ahead of the strongest chess players from all over the world, Caliber.Az reports, citing the 32-year-old grandmaster's post on his Facebook page.
It is noteworthy that this is already the second success of Vasif Durarbeyli at this tournament. Last year he also became the winner of the Las Vegas International, sharing first place with other participants. However, as the grandmaster himself noted, then he was not completely satisfied with the quality of his own play.
“This time I was pleased with both the result and the quality of the games,” Durarbeyli shared his impressions.
Vasif Durarbeyli is one of the leading chess players of Azerbaijan. During his career, he repeatedly won major international competitions and was in the top 100 of the FIDE world rankings.
