Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wins World Championship
Based on the results of the World Wrestling Championship in Serbia's capital Belgrade, the Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestling team achieved historical success at the tournament.
With 2 gold and 3 silver medals, and 120 points, the Azerbaijani athletes clinched the title in the team competition for the first time in its history, per Caliber.Az.
In addition, the Greco-Roman wrestling team achieved the best result in the history of Azerbaijani wrestling teams at the World Championships, both in terms of medals and points scored.
The previous best results of the team were silver medals, including in 2009 and 2010 - in freestyle wrestling, and in 2015 and 2022 - in Greco-Roman wrestling.
The second place at the World Championships was won by the Iranian team (102), and third by Türkiye (93).
Eldaniz Azizli (55 kg) and Rafig Huseynov (82 kg) from the team Azerbaijan became champions, while Murad Mamedov (63 kg), Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg)ç and Sanan Suleymanov (77 kg) won silver. Along with this, Hasrat Jafarov and Sanan Suleymanov also received a license for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
