Azerbaijani gymnasts win silver, bronze at tournament in Bahrain
The Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation has announced that Azerbaijani athletes Shams Aghahuseynova and Sofia Mammadova achieved podium finishes at the ongoing ISF Gymnasiade in Manama, the capital of Bahrain.
Aghahuseynova won a silver medal in the individual all-around competition, while Mammadova secured a bronze medal, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Young Azerbaijani wrestlers also secured three medals.
Nazrin Ahmadli (43 kg) won the gold medal, Esra Mammadli (57 kg) took silver, and Fatima Bayramova (53 kg) earned bronze.
Azerbaijani freestyle wrestlers Huseyn Huseynov (55 kg) and Hasan Hasanov (60 kg) secured first place, while Farhad Suleymanli (92 kg) claimed second.
Farid Aghasizade, Huseyn Ismayilov (both 65 kg), Rashad Veysalov, Nihad Abbasov (both 71 kg), Nihad Suleymanli (80 kg), and Hakim Taghiyev (110 kg) ranked third. Greco-Roman wrestling competitions will begin on October 30.
Azerbaijani fencers also concluded their participation with a total of four medals. In the individual competitions, fencer Valentina Zeynalova won a gold medal, while Leyla Ahmadova secured a bronze medal.
Fencers Mirkhatai Mammadov and Emin Safarbayov claimed third place in the fencing competitions. Azerbaijan is represented by 160 athletes in 16 kinds of sports.
From the 23rd to the 31st of October 2024, the largest International Sport School Federation (ISF) is gathering school students from around the world to compete in 26 different kinds of sports in Manama, Bahrain.
Over the course of eight days, both students and teachers are having the opportunity to experience a wide range of different activities, from inspiring workshops and seminars to unforgettable cultural visits and interactions with their peers from around the world, all in the spirit of fair-play and respect whilst striving for excellence, through their shared love for sport.
