Azerbaijani Interior Ministry disproves false report of explosive in Baku PHOTO
The Azerbaijani Interior Ministry has swiftly acted to halt the dissemination of false, anti-Azerbaijani claims.
The misleading information originated from a post by Kurdistan's Rudaw broadcaster, which alarmingly asserted that an explosive device had been discovered on a street in Baku, Caliber.Az reports.
However, the truth soon emerged: the "suspicious package" turned out to be harmless.
"It was determined that the package placed on the roadside belongs to a food supply company," the ministry said in a statement as it disproved the fake news.
This incident is yet another attempt by certain anti-Azerbaijan circles to damage the nation’s reputation, as the false report emerged just ahead of the high-profile 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
Starting on November 11 and running through November 22, COP29 will bring together global leaders and climate change advocates from all corners of the world. Azerbaijan's successful bid to host the prestigious event was solidified during the COP28 plenary session in December 2023, gaining broad support from Eastern European nations. The conference is expected to draw an impressive 80,000 participants, including top-level government officials and state representatives.
Ahead of this major international gathering, Azerbaijan has declared 2024 as the “Green World Solidarity Year,” a forward-thinking initiative aimed at fostering global cooperation to address the climate crisis. The conference will centre around two key pillars: raising ambition and enabling action. These focus areas will promote transparent national climate strategies and mobilize necessary financial resources to transform ambitious climate goals into actionable outcomes, such as reducing emissions and mitigating climate change impacts.
In a bold financial commitment, Azerbaijan has also launched a $1 billion Climate Finance Action Fund (CFAF), sourcing contributions from fossil fuel-producing countries and corporations. Half of this fund will be dedicated to climate projects in developing countries, prioritizing clean energy, energy efficiency, and strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities.
Further emphasizing the spirit of global unity, the COP29 Presidency has introduced the “COP Truce Appeal,” which calls for peace and reconciliation efforts intertwined with climate action.
President Ilham Aliyev underscored the historic significance of hosting COP29, describing it as a crucial platform to unite national and global efforts in tackling the escalating climate crisis. He reiterated Azerbaijan's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030 and by 40% by 2050, in accordance with the Paris Agreement.
