Azerbaijani MP: Armenia inclined towards revanchism
Azerbaijani MP Gaya Mammadov has said that the involvement of foreign military specialists in the Armenian army raises significant concerns.
Mammadov made these remarks during the event titled "Discussion of President Ilham Aliyev's speech in the Azerbaijani parliament: An Independent and Principled Foreign Policy" at the Azerbaijani Centre of Analysis of International Relations, Caliber.Az reports.
He emphasised that it is no coincidence that the president highlighted Azerbaijan's security issues in his speech in the parliament.
"The increase in Armenia's military spending since the second Karabakh war is alarming. During the war in 2020, Armenia's military expenditures were $600 million. In the subsequent years, this amount has risen to $1.4 billion and $1.7 billion," he stated.
The MP pointed out that Armenia is procuring weaponry with substantial firepower and air defence systems, primarily from France and India.
Mammadov noted that Azerbaijan's military budget far exceeds that of Armenia; however, Armenia, having previously occupied territories of another country, remains inclined towards revanchism.
"Whenever this country feels a military advantage, it tends to provoke Azerbaijan and pursues an occupation policy. Considering these factors, it is understandable why there is growing concern," he added.
