Azerbaijani Olympians: Dozens strong and ready to shine in Paris
Azerbaijan is gearing up for a strong presence at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, having secured 36 licences for the event scheduled from July 26 to August 11.
Fencer Anna Bashta (sabre), 9 "milli" judokas and Rostislav Pevtsov (triathlon) won another ticket to the Olympics, Azerisport.com reports.
Previously, licenses were won by athletes across various sports. Among them were Ruslan Lunev in shooting (10 metres), Murad Allahverdiyev (boxing, 80 kg), Mahammad Abdullayev (boxing, +92 kg), Anna Skidan (athletics, hammer throw), Zohra Aghamirova (rhythmic gymnastics), Sanan Suleymanov (Greco-Roman wrestling, 77 kg), Hasrat Jafarov (Greco-Roman wrestling, 67 kg), and Gashim Magomedov (taekwondo, 58 kg).
Additionally, Nijat Huseynov qualified in boxing (51 kg), Seljan Mahmudova in trampoline, and freestyle wrestlers Aliabbas Rzazada (57 kg), Haji Aliyev (65 kg), Turan Bayramov (74 kg), Osman Nurmagomedov (86 kg), and Magomedkhan Magomedov (97 kg) secured spots. Giorgi Meshvildishvili qualified in the 125 kg category.
The women's 3x3 Basketball Team consisting of Dina Ulyanova, Tiffany Hayes, Alexandra Mollenhauer, and Mercedes Walker also secured a spot. In individual events, Diana Dymchenko qualified in rowing (2,000 metres), Ade Resky Dwicahyo and Keisha Fatimah Az Zahra in badminton, and Murad Mamnadov (Greco-Roman wrestling, 60 kg), Rafig Huseynov (Greco-Roman wrestling, 87 kg), and Sabah Shariati (Greco-Roman wrestling, 130 kg) in wrestling. Mariya Stadnik qualified in the 50 kg wrestling category.
The rhythmic gymnastics team, including Laman Alimuradova, Elizaveta Luzan, Zeynab Hummatova, Gullu Aghalarzada, Kamilla Aliyeva, and Darya Sorokina, also secured a spot.
The composition of judokas has not been determined yet, but from 9 judokas we can say for sure that Yashar Najafov (66 kg), Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg), Zelym Kotsoiev (100 kg), Ushangi Kokauri (+100 kg) and Leyla Aliyeva (48 kg) will go to Paris.
