Azerbaijani president, officials honour 32nd anniversary of Khojaly genocide

26 February 2024 10:05

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has shared a publication on his social media accounts in connection with the 32nd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.

As Caliber.Az reports, a publication on his X account reads: "26 February 1992. Khojaly genocide."

On this occasion, Azerbaijan's First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva also shared a post on her official Instagram page, which says: "Justice for Khojaly. 26 February 1992."

Joining the call for justice, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Association Leyla Aliyeva, also came up with a publication on her official Instagram page, mentioning the slogan "Justice for Khojaly".

Meanwhile, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov shared a post on the 32nd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. It says: “32 years pass since the largest massacre committed by Armenia during the aggression against Azerbaijan in Khojaly. We honour all our Martyrs who were brutally killed during these atrocities. The perpetrators of this mass murder must be held accountable!”

A commemorative post on this occasion also came from Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov, who said: "The Khojaly genocide is one of the gravest crimes against humanity in the history of the entire world.

This massacre committed against the Azerbaijani people could not break the will of our people to fight.

As a result of anti-terrorist measures of the Azerbaijani army under the leadership of the victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the sovereignty of our state was fully restored, including the Khojaly district was cleared of separatists.

Our tricolour flag proudly flying in Khojaly today demonstrates the triumph of justice, that the blood of the victims of genocide has not remained unavenged. On the 32nd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, we honour the memory of the victims of the tragedy and ask Allah for mercy to our martyrs," the publication says.

The Khojaly genocide is the gravest crime of genocide committed against peaceful Azerbaijani people in the course of Armenia’s aggressive war against Azerbaijan. On the night of February 25-26, 1992, in violation of all international legal norms, Armenian armed forces attacked the civilian population of the sieged town of Khojaly with heavy military equipment, killing them with unprecedented brutality and razing the town to the ground.

As a result of crime against not only the people of Azerbaijan but against humanity, 613 civilian Azerbaijanis, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 elders were brutally murdered on grounds of national identity. The Khojaly genocide is one of a series of acts of mass slaughter aiming to crush those who rose up for the defence of their lands from Armenian armed forces’ aggression, to break their will to fight and annihilate the Azerbaijani population of Nagorno-Karabakh.
