Turkish lawmaker hails PKK’s fall as Türkiye-Azerbaijan alliance grows stronger
During a diplomatic visit to Baku, Shamil Ayrım, head of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group, praised the end of Türkiye’s decades-long fight against terrorism, marked by the self-dissolution of the PKK. He emphasized that this historic milestone not only concludes a 50-year struggle but also paves the way for even deeper unity between Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
“The unity of Türkiye and Azerbaijan will be further strengthened,” Ayrım declared, underscoring the strategic momentum driving bilateral relations, Caliber.Az reports.
The deepening strategic and cultural ties between Türkiye and Azerbaijan were reaffirmed during the meeting between the Azerbaijani Parliament and a visiting delegation from the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
The talks, held in Baku, emphasized enhanced cooperation in inter-parliamentary relations, education, and regional security.
Ahliman Amiraslanov, head of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye inter-parliamentary working group, welcomed the delegation and underscored the importance of collaboration among Turkic states. He lauded the activity of the newly formed working group on inter-parliamentary relations with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and stressed the growing relevance of the Organisation of Turkic States in promoting regional solidarity.
Amiraslanov further noted that Türkiye's recent milestones — including the announcement of the self-dissolution of the PKK and Ankara's rising international influence — have been welcomed with great satisfaction in Azerbaijan. “Türkiye's successes, such as the self-dissolution of the terrorist organisation PKK and its growing authority on the world stage, make Azerbaijan happy,” he said.
Shamil Ayrım, head of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group, credited the role of both nations’ presidents for the continued strengthening of bilateral relations. He hailed Türkiye's decades-long struggle against terrorism, which he said had culminated with the dissolution of the PKK.
Ayrim stated that with the declaration of the PKK’s self-dissolution, Türkiye has effectively brought an end to a nearly five-decade-long struggle against terrorism.
He expressed firm confidence in the continued fortification of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan alliance, remarking, “the unity of Türkiye and Azerbaijan will be further strengthened.”
Members of the Turkish delegation also reflected positively on their broader visit to Azerbaijan, including their engagement at ADA University. They highlighted the importance of educational cooperation and encouraged the expansion of academic exchanges between the two countries.
