Azerbaijan highlights landmine threat during Bahrain talks

12 May 2025 17:39

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov drew attention to the ongoing threat posed by landmines in the country's liberated territories during a May 12 meeting with Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of Bahrain’s Shura Council.

During the meeting, which was held within the framework of the Azerbaijani minister’s visit to Bahrain, Bayramov briefed the Bahraini officials on the post-conflict developments in the region, including large-scale reconstruction efforts in the territories liberated from occupation and challenges posed by landmines, Caliber.Az reports citing the Foreign Ministry.

The ongoing Azerbaijan-Armenia normalisation process was discussed, with Bayramov noting that the draft peace treaty had been finalised. However, he raised concerns over Armenia’s continued territorial claims enshrined in its Constitution and legislative documents, which pose a barrier to long-term peace.

Additionally, the sides discussed the importance of strengthening Azerbaijani-Bahraini cooperation, particularly through interparliamentary dialogue. They also underlined the role of parliamentary diplomacy and encouraged the expansion of mutual visits and exchanges between legislative bodies to promote ties grounded in friendship, mutual respect, and understanding

Bayramov and Al Saleh expressed satisfaction with ongoing collaboration within international organisations, including the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement. Bahrain’s support for the Parliamentary Network initiated by Azerbaijan under the Non-Aligned Movement was acknowledged, along with appreciation for Bahrain's hosting of the network’s second meeting in Manama.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual concern.
