Israeli ambassador to Azerbaijan to end term in coming months
Israeli Ambassador to Azerbaijan George Deek has announced that his diplomatic mission will come to an end in the coming months.
Speaking to local media, Ambassador Deek clarified that he expects to leave Azerbaijan within the next one to two months, Caliber.Az reports.
“Contrary to reports suggesting that my term has already concluded, I still have a number of responsibilities to fulfil. I will remain in my post for a while longer this summer,” he stated.
The diplomat added that an official announcement regarding his departure will be issued in due course.
As a reminder, on January 13, Ronen Krausz, Director of the Eurasia Division at Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was appointed as the new Israeli Ambassador to Azerbaijan.
The government unanimously approved 12 ambassadorial and consular appointments, following recommendations by the committee for selecting foreign mission heads and presented by Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.
Krausz succeeds George Deek, who has served in Baku since November 2019.
Israel and Azerbaijan established diplomatic ties in 1992, with Israel opening its embassy in Baku in August 1993.
