Türkiye’s Security Council head in Azerbaijan to bolster bilateral cooperation
Okay Memiş, Secretary-General of Türkiye’s National Security Council (NSC), is currently in Azerbaijan on an official visit, marking his first trip to the country since assuming the high-ranking role earlier this year.
The Turkish Embassy in Baku confirmed the visit on social media, noting that Memiş met with Türkiye’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Birol Akgün, as part of his official itinerary, Caliber.Az reports.
“Secretary-General of the National Security Council, Governor Okay Memiş, paid a visit to our Ambassador Birol Akgün during his official trip to Azerbaijan,” the embassy stated.
Memiş, who formerly served as the head of Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), was appointed as Secretary-General of the NSC in February 2025. His visit serves as a testament to close cooperation between Ankara and Baku on matters of regional security and strategic alignment.
