Azerbaijani president’s speech at ADA University sparks debate in Georgia’s media PHOTO
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s remarks at the international forum “Facing the New World Order” on April 9 have garnered significant attention from Georgian media outlets.
His speech, delivered at ADA University in Baku, has been widely covered by leading Georgian news portals, including imedinews.ge, interpressnews.ge, 24news.ge, aktual.ge, qafqazturk.com, and the TV channel 1tv.ge, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
A key point in President Aliyev’s address was his criticism of the European Commission’s interference in Georgia’s internal affairs. Aliyev described the European Commission’s stance as “absolutely unacceptable” and likened it to the behavior of colonizers. “The internal issues of Georgia must be resolved by the Georgian people, not by bureaucrats from Brussels,” he stated, emphasizing Azerbaijan’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty.
The Georgian media outlets also highlighted President Aliyev’s historical reflections on Azerbaijan’s close ties with Georgia, as well as his criticism of certain foreign activities in the region. He reiterated concerns over the illegal operations of USAID in Azerbaijan and addressed the unfair remarks made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the recent summit in Uzbekistan, particularly concerning the Middle Corridor. He also discussed the opening of borders between Armenia and Türkiye, as well as Armenia and Azerbaijan, framing these issues within the broader context of regional security and cooperation.
In addition to these critical statements, Aliyev expressed a desire for continued good relations between Azerbaijan, Georgia, and European institutions. He noted the significance of Georgia’s Prime Minister’s visit to Azerbaijan, marking the first official visit since recent elections, and looked forward to the forthcoming visit of Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili to Azerbaijan. The speech also underscored the long-standing historical ties between the Azerbaijani and Georgian peoples, as well as the transformation of the South Caucasus into a strategically significant region.
