Azerbaijani rowers grab nine medals on first day of Mingachevir Regatta 2024
Azerbaijani athletes have achieved remarkable success, winning nine medals on the first day of the Mingachevir Regatta 2024.
Mahammad Hasanov won a bronze medal, while Alimurad Hajizade grabbed silver. Hasanov ranked third in the 1,000-metre rowing event for 13-14-year-old athletes, while Hajizade ranked second in the kayak race over the same distance for 15-16-year-old participants, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The Mingachevir Regatta 2024, organised by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Youth and Sports along with the Azerbaijan Canoe and Rowing Federation, showcased impressive performances at the Kur Olympic Training and Sports Centre, where the national team grabbed seven medals on the opening day. Javid Valizade clinched third place in the 1,000-metre canoe race for 15-16-year-old athletes.
Amil Ramazanov triumphed in the 500-metre kayak race for 17-18-year-old participants, finishing first. In the same event, Alimurad Hajizade grabbed silver in the category of 15-16-year-old athletes, while the duo of Niyaz Malikov and Elvin Aliyev won the bronze medal.
Moreover, in the 1,500-metre academic rowing competition for 17-18-year-old athletes, Nurlan Pashayev won gold, followed by Jangangir Mammadli with silver and Mahammad Niftullayev with bronze. The tournament will conclude on October 18.
