In celebration of Youth Day on February 2, Azerbaijan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Tofig Musayev, met with members of the Federation of Azerbaijani-American Youth and Azerbaijani students at the UN headquarters in New York.
Over 30 Azerbaijani students currently studying in the city attended the event, organized by the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the UN, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
During the meeting, Ambassador Musayev shared insights into Azerbaijan’s historical connection with the United Nations, particularly highlighting the significance of March 2, 1992. On that day, at the 46th session of the UN General Assembly, a resolution was passed granting Azerbaijan full membership. Musayev recalled the moment when Azerbaijan’s national flag was first raised at the UN headquarters, symbolizing the country’s new role in the international community. He also noted that Azerbaijan's Permanent Mission to the UN began its operations shortly thereafter, on May 6, 1992.
Musayev also discussed how Azerbaijan has actively used its UN membership to raise awareness about Armenia's military aggression and occupation of Azerbaijani territories, as well as its efforts to promote a peaceful settlement of the conflict. He provided details on the UN Security Council resolutions related to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
Additionally, Musayev informed the students about Azerbaijan’s cooperation with various UN programs, the country’s contributions to the organization’s activities, and the initiatives it has implemented.
At the end of the event, Musayev answered questions from the students, who also shared their suggestions and opinions. The meeting concluded with a short tour of the UN headquarters for the participants.
