Azerbaijani sumo athletes to compete at European Championships

Azerbaijan’s men’s and women’s sumo teams will take part in the European Sumo Championships, scheduled to be held in Stirling, Scotland, from June 26 to 29.

The men’s team will compete across all weight categories, while the women’s squad will participate in selected divisions, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The final composition of the delegation has yet to be confirmed.

“We will compete in all existing categories in the men’s division, while the women will take part in some of them. The final squad for the tournament has not yet been decided,” Ulvi Agamirov, vice-president of the Japanese Martial Arts and Culture Association, said.

He added that the official team roster will be approved at a later stage.

The European Championships are set to be one of the key international events of the season for Azerbaijani sumo athletes.
