Azerbaijani swimmers serve brilliant performances at 3rd CIS Games PHOTO
Azerbaijan's swimmers have achieved brilliant performances at the III CIS Games, which are currently underway, earning several medals.
Male swimmer Yegor Maynitsky's strong performance at the Ganja Sports Palace earned him a gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke individual competition, as well as a silver medal in the 200-meter freestyle competition, Caliber.Az reports, citing the local sports news outlet Idman.Biz.
The medal score for Azerbaijan's team did not end with this victory. Farhad Shirmammadli also achieved a podium win, earning a silver medal in the 200-meter individual medley as did Amirhuseyn Ganjah in the 100-meter breaststroke.
Azerbaijani athletes also shone in the female swimming tournaments. Mehri Adbulrahmanli achieved third place in the 100-meter butterfly competition, which became the Azerbaijani team's first swimming medal at the time in the 3rd CIS games.
The very first swimming competition of the games was the women’s 800-meter freestyle, in which Azerbaijani swimmer Anastasia Gnussina reached fourth place.
The III CIS Games feature a total of 1,624 athletes from some of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which is formed by 13 of the former member states of the Soviet Union, as well as athletes from Cuba, Oman, Türkiye, Pakistan and Kuwait. The competitions in the various disciplines take place all across the country and will conclude on October 8.
