Azerbaijani team becomes European champion in Greco-Roman wrestling competitions For first time in history
The Greco-Roman wrestling competitions have been completed at the U23 European Championships 2024 wrestling tournament in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku.
The Azerbaijani national team achieved a historic result by successfully performing at the continental championship, according to Azertag.
Having won three gold, one silver and four bronze medals, the team scored 163 points and became the European U23 champion for the first time.
Proceeding from the points scored in a similar competition, the team that showed the best result was 25 points ahead of its rival - Georgia. The Turkish team ranked third with 135 points.
Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestlers Ziya Babashov (63 kg), Khasay Hasanli (77 kg), Gurban Gurbanov (82 kg) won gold, Nihad Guluzade (60 kg) won silver, Rashad Mammadov (55 kg), Ruslan Nurullayev (72 kg), Lachin Valiyev (87 kg) and Murad Ahmadiyev (97 kg) - bronze medals.
The European Championship will end on May 26.
