Azerbaijani wrestlers shine with three medals at tournament in Russia
The Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation has announced that Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestlers grabbed three medals at a tournament held in Russia’s Tyumen city in honour of world and European champion, and Olympic medalist Vladimir Cheboksarov.
Finalists Eldaniz Azizli and Ulvi Ganizade (both competing in the 72 kg category) grabbed silver medals, as they were unable to participate in the decisive match due to injuries, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Gurban Gurbanov (82 kg) ranked third. The Azerbaijani national team consisted of six wrestlers, coached by head coach Alexander Tarakanov and trainer Kamran Mammadov. Alongside Azerbaijan, teams from Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan participated in this traditional tournament.
