Baku, Ashgabat hold talks on boosting sea transport
Officials from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have held talks in Baku aimed at strengthening maritime transport and logistics links between their countries.
The Turkmen delegation, led by Parahat Jumayev, director of the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port, met with Eldar Salahov, director of the Baku International Sea Port, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Discussions focused on increasing cargo flows through the ports of Turkmenbashi, Baku (Alat), Poti, Batumi and Constanta.
According to Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides emphasised their commitment to deepening strategic partnership, with particular attention to the development of logistics between Turkmenbashi and Baku. Measures to boost cargo traffic across the Caspian Sea, expand transport links, and enhance the Middle Corridor in line with rising trade volumes were also discussed.
Officials highlighted progress in simplifying cross-border and customs procedures in recent years. Reduced tariffs on maritime and rail services have encouraged multimodal transport and increased container transhipment.
The meeting also addressed the development of the Caspian–Black Sea international transit corridor, including the potential for increased cargo movement through ports in Turkmenbashi, Baku, Poti, Batumi, and Constanța.
The parties underscored the importance of cooperation with international partners, including the European Union, and discussed establishing efficient systems for information exchange along the corridor.
