Baku, Chișinău discuss renewable energy, decarbonization

10 April 2025 13:19

Azerbaijan and Moldova have held discussions regarding trade in oil, gas, and petroleum products.

The talks took place during a meeting between SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf and Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, and Co-Chairman of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Azerbaijani-Moldovan Economic Cooperation, Vladimir Bolea, Caliber.Az reports.

The discussions covered various issues of mutual interest, including renewable energy, decarbonization, and potential future collaborations. The importance of strengthening ties between SOCAR and Moldovan energy companies was highlighted, alongside the exploration of opportunities to deepen bilateral relations.

The meeting also acknowledged Azerbaijan’s contribution to Europe’s energy security and emphasised the significance of gas supply cooperation with countries in the region.

Note that, bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Moldova have developed through robust cooperation across various sectors, underpinned by mutual respect between their citizens. Regular high-level political dialogues facilitate growth in areas such as trade, economics, culture, and humanitarian issues.

Key platforms, including the inter-MFA political consultations, joint intergovernmental economic commission, and interparliamentary friendship groups, have enhanced this collaboration.

Both countries offer reciprocal support at international organisations like the UN, OSCE, and GUAM, solidifying their global ties. High-profile visits, such as those by Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Maia Sandu, along with numerous meetings of government officials, further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.

Additionally, inter-parliamentary relations have been fostered through continuous dialogue since 1997, supported by various signed agreements—64 in total. Trade turnover and economic exchanges continue to grow, reflecting the productive partnership, which remains promising for future development.
