Baku sets to host SPECA anniversary summit
The Summit, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of SPECA, the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia, will kick off in Baku on November 24.
Caliber.Az informs that the event will be attended by the presidents of the SPECA member countries and other high-ranking officials.
The United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) was launched in 1998 to strengthen subregional cooperation in Central Asia and its integration into the world economy.
The countries of SPECA are Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) jointly provide overall support to the Programme.
The purpose of the Program is to support the development of cooperation between Member States and integration into the global economy.
In 2023, SPECA was chaired by Azerbaijan. At the 18th session of the SPECA Governing Council in Baku on November 23, the chairmanship passed to Tajikistan.
The 19th SPECA summit will take place next year in the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe.
