Belarus, Russia dominate swimming at 3rd CIS Games in Azerbaijan
The 3rd CIS Games in Azerbaijan are producing exciting results as athletes from the Commonwealth of Independent States continue to compete for medals across various disciplines.
In swimming events, Belarus and Russia dominated the podiums. In the women’s 50m freestyle, Belarusian Anastasia Vasilenko claimed the gold medal, followed by her compatriot Valeria Shilko with silver, and Russian Valeria Brazhnichenko taking bronze, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Belarusian Vsevolod Sorokovik won gold in the 50m breaststroke, while Russian Kirill Veremchuk earned silver and Uzbek Mukhammadismoil Rakhmonov secured bronze.
In the 400m freestyle, Russian Valeria Brazhnichenko took first place, with fellow Russian Anastasia Chernysheva earning silver and Belarusian Ksenia Mastovich claiming bronze. Azerbaijani swimmers Anastasia Gnussina and Maryam Javadova finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Russian Dmitry Kravtsov won gold in the 100m backstroke, with Belarusian athletes Nikita Apanasik and Kirill Banshevich taking silver and bronze.
The III CIS Games, showcasing talent from across the CIS region, are set to conclude on October 8, promising more competitive action in the coming days.
