Belgian club's 25-year-old goalkeeper dies after deflecting penalty

The Belgian football club KVC Winkel Sport's goalkeeper Arne Espil, 25, felt unwell and collapsed during a match against Vestrosebeck.

As reported, Espil repulsed a penalty, but immediately afterwards collapsed on the pitch and the match was halted, Gazeta.Ru reports.

The goalkeeper was given first aid on the pitch, including the use of a defibrillator. The athlete passed away on the way to hospital.

"It is a tragedy and a shock for us. Arne had been at the club all his life and he was much loved. He was a great guy, always friendly and ready to help. It's a really hard blow. First of all for his family, but also for all of us," Het Nieuwsblad quoted the club's director Patrick Rotsart as saying.
