Andrew Bates, the White House’s deputy press secretary, dismissed claims about the shoes, stating that Biden uses them for exercise purposes. Described as blending lifestyle and performance, the Hoka Transport trainers were spotlighted by Inside Edition, which praised their wide sole and comfortable feel akin to "walking on air." Hoka's website notes the endorsement of the American Podiatric Association for their foot health benefits.

This attention to Biden's footwear comes amidst concerns over his physical and mental stamina, especially as he seeks reelection at 86 years old, with polls indicating widespread apprehension among Americans. Biden's medical history includes significant spinal arthritis, mild post-fracture foot arthritis, and sensory peripheral neuropathy in both feet, a condition marked by weakness, numbness, and pain.

While the president's gait has been subject to speculation, it is understood that he receives regular treatment to maintain flexibility from Dr. Drew Contreras, the White House's physical therapist. Biden's preference for less formal footwear, including tennis shoes and Skechers, reflects his adjustment to accommodate his health needs.

In addition to Biden's footwear choices, adaptations have been made in his public appearances, such as utilizing shorter flight stairs on the presidential jet and having a Secret Service agent assist him upon disembarking.
