10 June 2023 16:00
At least 27 people, most of them children, were killed when a bomb exploded in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region on June 9, according to the state-run Somali National News Agency.
At least 53 people have also been injured in the blast, SONA reported.
The explosion took place in the Murale village in the Janaale area of the eastern Lower Shabelle region, it said.
Ibrahim Malabow, a local government spokesman for the district, said the blast occurred in a park where children were playing, Anadolu reports.
Malabow blamed the al-Shabab terrorist organisation for the blast.
Al-Shabaab fighters, for their part, said a hand grenade thrown by an African Union peacekeeping mission soldier exploded.
