Bonaire activists praise support from Baku Initiative Group
President of the Bonaire Human Rights Organisation Davika Bissessar has said that human rights activists from Bonaire are proud of the support received from the Baku Initiative Group (BIG).
"Compared to your country, our population is small. We are proud that the Baku Initiative Group supports us; we can work together and share information. While few in this part of the world knew about Bonaire, now everyone is well informed. We understand the importance of the event organised with BIG," Bissessar told reporters, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Bissessar emphasised that Bonaire has been under Dutch rule for 400 years.
"Now is the time to work with the Baku Initiative Group on what we can do, rather than worrying about the reaction of any colonizer in the region," she added.
The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) is a diplomatic and advocacy organisation based in Baku, Azerbaijan, focused on fostering dialogue and cooperation on issues related to colonised peoples, self-determination, and human rights. The Baku Initiative Group has been involved in creating safe spaces for dialogue, such as conferences on self-determination and the rights of colonised peoples.
