British tourist killed, 27 injured in bus crash in Spain’s Canary Islands
At least one person was killed and 27 others injured when a bus carrying British tourists crashed down a ravine on the Spanish island of La Gomera on April 10, local emergency services said.
The injured — including three people in serious condition — were airlifted to Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Hospital and other medical facilities, according to emergency services. They said the bus was carrying 27 British nationals and a driver, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The Spanish Civil Guard told Reuters: "The person who died was a 77-year-old British man."
The accident occurred when the vehicle left the GM-2 road on La Gomera, part of Spain’s Canary Islands and a popular destination for visitors from northern Europe.
Tour operator Holiday Property Bond said the group was travelling to the airport to return to the UK when the crash occurred.
"Our thoughts go out to those affected by this tragic incident," the British foreign ministry said, adding that it was in touch with local authorities and ready to assist British nationals.
Spanish police have opened an investigation into the crash, though the cause has not yet been determined.
