Burials of presumably Stalin repression victims unearthed in Balakan PHOTO
Burials, presumably victims of Stalin’s repressions, were discovered on the right bank of the Katekh River in the village of the same name in Balakan District.
The find was discovered by residents, Report’s north-western bureau carries.
According to eyewitnesses, the burials were previously underwater, but a change in the river bed due to an increase in water level helped to discover them. About 50-60 graves can be installed on the territory.
Historian Akif Mammadli told a correspondent of the local Report bureau that the territory needs to be explored.
“Residents believe that the people buried here are probably victims of Stalin's repressions. I think there is a need for archaeological excavations on the right bank of the Katekh River,” he said.
