Environmental Protection First action as Armenia’s Agarak plant pollutes Azerbaijani rivers
The Agarak Copper-Molybdenum Combine, operating in Armenia, is directly discharging chemical waste into the Azerbaijani Araz River.
The remarks were made by Mugabil Bayramov, a member of the Environmental Protection First (EPF) coalition and head of the Public Association "Cartographers of Azerbaijan," during a briefing dedicated to the illegal mining activities of Armenia that are polluting Azerbaijani rivers and the overall ecology of the South Caucasus, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He noted that the activities of this plant significantly contribute to the pollution of the Araz River:
"About 30 non-governmental organizations from 13 countries have joined the Environmental Protection First coalition and expressed their protest regarding the operations conducted by Armenia without adhering to environmental standards. These organizations have sent an open letter to the Armenian authorities and the Expo Convention. Unfortunately, there have been no results on this matter."
The Agarak Copper-Molybdenum Combine (ACMC) is a mining and processing complex located in the southern part of Armenia, specifically in the Syunik province. It is one of the largest copper and molybdenum mining enterprises in the country and plays a crucial role in Armenia's mining sector.
