Baku Initiative Group expands efforts to promote decolonisation at UN forum PHOTO
The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) is stepping up its efforts to support global decolonisation and raise awareness about the lasting impact of colonial rule, according to the group’s Executive Director Abbas Abbasov.
Speaking on the opening day of the 4th session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent, Abbasov highlighted BIG’s commitment to advocating for the rights of peoples still under colonial domination, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He announced that the conference titled “Decolonisation: A Silent Revolution”, set to begin today with the support of the UN Forum, will focus on examining the colonial legacies of France and the Netherlands and their enduring effects.
During the session, Abbasov met with Martin Kimani, President of the Permanent Forum, and presented him with a book commissioned by BIG titled “The Evolution of French Colonialism: A Political and Constitutional Study.”
Notably, the Baku Initiative Group was established to promote decolonization, self-determination, and the dismantling of neocolonial practices in international relations.
