China’s aircraft carrier Liaoning engages in military exercises Near Taiwan
The Chinese Defence Ministry announced that the Liaoning aircraft carrier group is currently involved in the "Joint Sword-2024B" military drills in waters east of Taiwan.
The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) has mobilized the Liaoning group to conduct joint exercises with its ground, naval, air, and rocket forces, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
These exercises focus on collaboration between vessels and aircraft, joint air control, and coordinated strikes on both sea and land targets in the region.
The drills are designed to assess the integrated combat capabilities of multiple military branches during operations both within and beyond the island chain.
The PLA's Eastern Theater Command has organized various military branches to carry out "Joint Sword-2024B" exercises in the Taiwan Strait and in the northern, southern, and eastern waters surrounding Taiwan.
The spokesperson, Li Xi, stated that these drills serve as a strong deterrent against "Taiwan independence" movements and are essential actions to protect national sovereignty and unity.
