Denmark cuts off military aid to Georgia

30 July 2024 16:28

Denmark has stopped providing military aid to Georgia due to the adoption of the law "On Transparency of Foreign Influence" (also known as the law on foreign agents).

The announcement was made by Georgian MP Teona Akubardia, citing a letter from the Danish Foreign Ministry, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The kingdom started providing military aid to Georgia in 2023, with a budget of 71.5 million Danish kroner (about $10.376 million).

In addition, according to the letter, Denmark urges the Georgian government to return to the Euro-Atlantic path, to follow the European Union's reform programme, which, as Akubardia noted, is the basis of strong bilateral ties between Denmark and Georgia.

According to the parliamentarian, this is the worst situation, the reputational damage inflicted on Georgia is a serious challenge to its sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, as well as the country's ability to defend itself.
