Media: Dushanbe to host autumn session of CIS Interparliamentary Assembly
The autumn session of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) is set to take place on November 13–14 in Dushanbe, marking the first time the event will be held in the capital of Tajikistan.
The session will convene parliamentary delegations from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, alongside representatives from various partner organizations, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.
The autumn session will open on November 13 with a meeting of the CIS IPA Council, which brings together the heads of parliaments from member states. Council members will be briefed on the outcomes of the CIS Heads of State Council meeting held on October 10, 2025, as well as the CIS Heads of Government Council meeting of September 29, 2025.
The council’s agenda will address several key topics, including Tajikistan’s chairmanship of the CIS in 2025, the activities of the CIS Human Rights Commission, and the awarding of the Chingiz Aitmatov Prize. In addition, the parliamentary leaders will discuss the IPA’s work plan for 2026 and review the results of major events held this year. These include the 11th Nevsky International Ecological Congress; the 10th International Cultural and Educational Forum “Children of the Commonwealth,” hosted for the first time in Belarus; the 2nd International Forum on Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories; and the Travel Hub Commonwealth tourism forum, both held in Russia’s Republic of Dagestan.
Council members will also receive briefings on the 2nd International Conference “Russian Language as a Basis for Integration Dialogue in the CIS” and the International Scientific and Educational Congress “Intellectual Code of the Commonwealth.”
The council will further review the outcomes of the 25th meeting of the Youth Interparliamentary Assembly. Concurrently, the IPA’s Permanent Commission on Legal Issues and the Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation will hold their respective sessions.
The 59th plenary session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly is scheduled to formally open on November 14. Parliamentarians will consider a series of documents, including model laws on pharmaceutical provision in CIS countries, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the development of creative industries, territorial defence, and the role of the children’s rights commissioner. The session will also examine recommendations for identifying and documenting crimes related to human trafficking within the Commonwealth.
