Environmentalists urge Pashinyan to stop pollution of Lake Goycha
Environmental Protection First Coalition has appealed to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding the pollution of Lake Goycha, per Report.
"Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan should be aware of the extent of the environmental damage caused by the non-transparent activities of mining companies near Lake Goycha, which have been entrusted to foreign investors," the appeal says.
This approach will probably solve the problem of water purification, which has remained unsolved for many years, the coalition believes.
Pashinyan responded to protests by Armenian and Azerbaijani NGOs and environmental activists over the pollution of freshwater resources caused by the exploitation of the Amuldag field without complying with environmental standards.
During the government meeting, he admitted that wastewater was being discharged into Lake Goycha without prior treatment. Pashinyan also agreed that despite years of discussion, no final solution to the problem has been found and that Armenia does not have the necessary funds and resources to do so. The head of government stressed that despite the involvement of international partners in the process of water purification, the lake becomes polluted again after a certain period of time.
