Envoy: Azerbaijan, Türkiye strengthen global positions through strategic cooperation
Azerbaijan and Türkiye are working to enhance their global influence through strategic cooperation in the defence industry, digital transformation, and energy, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Birol Akgün stated during the "Geopolitics of Technology" seminar at Khazar University.
"Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye in this field has reached a strategic level," Akgün said, referring to advancements in joint defence projects, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He highlighted that Türkiye's expanding local production in the defence sector has created new opportunities and strengthened international partnerships.
Outlining the key areas of collaboration, the ambassador emphasized three main pillars:
"First of all, these are joint projects in the defence industry and military sphere. The expansion of joint production and technological exchange contribute to the creation of a strong defence environment," Akgün noted.
Regarding energy security, he pointed out Türkiye’s crucial role in facilitating Azerbaijani energy exports:
"Turkey's participation in the TANAP and Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan projects plays an important role in the export of Azerbaijani energy resources," he said.
Akgün also underscored the significance of digital transformation as a major area of bilateral cooperation.
"Joint initiatives in the field of new technologies and artificial intelligence contribute to strengthening the positions of both countries in the international arena," he concluded.
Birol Akgün was appointed Türkiye’s new ambassador to Azerbaijan by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on January 11. Before his diplomatic posting, he served as chairman of the Turkish Educational Foundation Maarif Vakfı.
On February 13, Ambassador Akgün presented his credentials to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. During their meeting, Akgün conveyed greetings from President Erdoğan, to which Aliyev responded with gratitude and requested that his warm regards be relayed back to the Turkish leader.
President Aliyev reiterated the strength of Azerbaijani-Turkish ties, emphasizing their uniqueness.
"Azerbaijani-Turkish relations are unparalleled, even when compared to the closest alliances globally," Aliyev stated, highlighting that the strategic alliance between the two nations continues to deepen through trilateral platforms.
