Envoy: Iran to double gas exports to Armenia
Iranian Ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, has announced that Iranian gas exports to Armenia are set to double in the near future.
He highlighted that Armenia and Iran had extended their "Gas for Electricity" agreement until 2030 a year ago, under which Tehran exports 360 million cubic meters of gas annually to Armenia in exchange for electricity, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Sobhani also mentioned the nearing completion of the third transmission line between Armenia and Iran, expected to be operational within a few months. This new infrastructure will enable Iran to double its electricity imports from Armenia.
In the trade sector, Sobhani noted that the trade turnover with Armenia has increased to $711 million, with approximately 400 trucks travelling between the two countries daily. He emphasized the strategic importance of Armenia as a market for Iran, particularly as it is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
"Relations between Iran and Armenia hold special significance due to their geographical and strategic location. The 46-kilometer border between the countries plays a crucial role in enhancing regional security," Sobhani remarked.
He also cited various ongoing joint projects in infrastructure and energy, including road construction and the expansion of gas and electricity exchanges, as key areas of cooperation between the two nations.
