Estonia to ban import of some goods from Russia
Estonia will ban private individuals to import sanctioned goods from Russia from July 10, 2022.
Among these goods are alcohol (including vodka), red and black caviar, furniture, fertilizers and luxury goods, for example, some types of equipment, Estonia’s ERR reports referring to Ukraine’s Obozrevatel news website.
These goods can be imported in limited quantities till July 10, 2022, afterwards, the import of these goods will be completely prohibited.
The ban is connected with sanctions imposed by the EU to prevent the purchase of Russian goods that bring Russia big income and help finance the war against Ukraine.
The Estonian Tax and Customs Board reminded that the violation of sanctions is a crime and the proceedings on which can be carried out by the Security Police and the Tax and Customs Board according to the decision of the prosecutor's office. A final decision will be made in court.
“Depending on the nature of the violation, in case of the first and unintentional violation, a criminal case will not be initiated,” the Tax and Customs Board added.
The Tax and Customs Board also reminded that the sanctions apply to the export of a number of goods classified as luxury goods, in particular, consumer electronics, to Russia.
