Estonia to fully ban Russian gas from 2026
18 September 2025 19:00
The Estonian government has approved a complete ban on the purchase of Russian natural gas, which will take effect on January 1, 2026.
Currently, Estonia allows the import of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) as long as it is not used in the country’s distribution network. The new amendment, announced by Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, will extend the ban to all Russian LNG, including shipments outside the distribution network, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The minister noted that the government had approved this amendment. He added that market participants have “enough time to familiarise themselves with the changes and reorganise their activities accordingly.”
