EU approves trade deal with US, introducing 15% tariff on exports

30 June 2026 18:17

The European Union has approved a trade agreement with the United States that will take effect on July 1, introducing a 15% U.S. tariff on all European goods while eliminating EU tariffs on US products.

According to the Council of the European Union, the bloc has completed the approval process for the agreement, clearing the way for its implementation, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

Under the deal, all goods exported from the EU to the United States will be subject to a 15% tariff, while the European Union has agreed to remove tariffs on imports of U.S. goods.

The agreement also includes a commitment by the EU to purchase $750 billion worth of U.S. energy resources by 2028.

The deal follows pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump, who had urged the European Union to implement the agreement by July 4 and warned that Washington would impose additional tariffs on the bloc if it failed to do so.

Sealed between Trump and EU chief Ursula von der Leyen in July 2025, the deal sets levies of 15% on most EU exports to the United States, and zero tariffs for US industrial goods coming into the 27-nation bloc.

Parliament also introduced an expiration date of end-2029, unless the agreement is renewed by then. The implementation of the deal comes after Trump last year threatened to slap a 100% tariff on European countries that impose a digital services tax.
