EU rejects recognition of border changes in Palestine
The European Union has reiterated its stance of not recognizing any changes to the UN-recognized borders in the Gaza Strip or other regions in Palestine.
This statement was made by European Council President António Costa during the opening of an extraordinary summit of the Arab League (LAS) held in Egypt's new administrative capital, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
In his remarks, Costa emphasized the EU’s commitment to upholding international law and UN resolutions, stating, "The EU does not recognise any border changes in the Gaza Strip or any other zones in the region, in full compliance with UN resolutions."
Costa also called on all parties involved in the ongoing conflict to adhere to the truce and ensure that humanitarian aid can reach the people of Palestine. He highlighted the EU's determination to play a central role in supporting the restoration of governance in Gaza and reaffirmed the union's dedication to backing diplomatic efforts aimed at securing long-term peace in the region.
An emergency summit of the League of Arab States (LAS) is underway in Cairo, with the focus on the Palestinian issue as a whole, and specifically the situation in Gaza and the future of the enclave. The Egyptian government’s reconstruction plan for Gaza is expected to be the central topic of the summit.
If approved, Egypt’s plan will be presented to the international community.
