EU’s new anti-Russian sanctions to hit oil supplies
The European Union (EU) is drawing up a new package of sanctions against Russia, aiming to cripple the oil supplies from the country.
The remarks came from the President of the European Council (EC), Charles Michel, according to RIA Novosti.
“We will impose sanctions that affect oil from Russia,” Michel said, speaking in Greece at a ceremony for the construction of a floating storage and regasification station for liquefied natural gas (FSRU) in the port of Alexandroupolis.
The EC president said this project would contribute to Europe's energy security.
“We have made crucial decisions in the energy sector. We have decided that we will stop our dependence on fossil energy sources,” Michel said.
The EU official also vowed financial support for all projects that would diversify energy supplies and reduce dependence on Russia.
