F1 Azerbaijan GP: Alpha Tauri team fined over $5,000
Team Alpha Tauri has been fined 5,000 euros [$5,563]or letting a car onto the track in an unsafe condition at the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, taking place in Baku.
The stewards were dissatisfied with the work of Alfa Tauri's mechanics at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix sprint, according to Report.
During the race, Japanese racing driver Yuki Tsunoda damaged his car, with a tyre coming off and a front fender broken. On his way to the pit stop, Tsunoda told the team that it was not worth continuing the race. The mechanics fitted a new tyre and wing and found the condition of the car to be satisfactory.
However, Tsunoda’s rear suspension broke just as he returned to the track, so he had to drive sideways. This time the Japanese racer was called back into the pits for a wrap.
The stewards said that the team could have studied the condition of the car more closely before letting it out on the track. This view was then echoed by a representative of Alpha Tauri as well.
The team was consequently fined 5,000 euros.
