FIA president explains reasons for date change in Azerbaijan Grand Prix

23 September 2022 14:36

President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) Mohammed Bin Sulayem has revealed the reason for changing the date of the 2023 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Due to a large number of races and the fact that they do not coincide with the 24 Hours of Le Mans marathon, it was decided to hold only two Grand Prix races in June, he said, according to Report.

"Special attention was paid to this when compiling the calendar," he added.

According to bin Sulayem, the inclusion of 24 races in the World Championship shows the global development of motorsport and the attraction of a wide audience.

“The addition of new races to the calendar and the preservation of traditional Grands Prix once again testifies to the FIA's special attention to Formula 1. I am pleased to report that we are entering a new era of racing with great excitement. The rules adopted by the International Automobile Federation in 2022 will be able to lay the foundation for this,” the FIA president added.

The new season of Formula 1 will be held with 24 races, a record number in F1 history. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will be held from April 28 to 30 after the date of competitions in Baku was changed again after 3 years.
