FIFA rejects France's appeal over player's yellow card
FIFA rejected France's appeal to overturn Michael Olise's yellow card from the Round of 16 victory over Paraguay, leaving the forward at risk of suspension ahead of World Cup quarter-final against Morocco.
Head coach Didier Deschamps confirmed the decision during a pre-match press conference, saying the French Football Federation had been notified by FIFA on Wednesday (July 8) morning, RMC Sport writes.
Olise was booked following a late altercation with Paraguay's Matias Galarza, prompting France to challenge the caution.
As a result, the Bayern Munich attacker will miss a potential World Cup semi-final on July 14 if he receives another yellow card against Morocco.
Despite the setback, Deschamps insisted France's focus remains on the quarter-final, warning against underestimating their opponents.
"Morocco are not Paraguay," he said. "They have very good players. They're a team that likes to keep possession and attack. They have a great deal of quality."
