Footballer Rafa Mir sentenced to 8.5 years for sexual assault
The Fourth Section of the Provincial Court of Valencia has sentenced footballer Rafa Mir to eight and a half years in prison after finding him guilty of sexual assault and bodily harm, according to the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV), as reported on by foreign media on Monday, June 15.
The case also involves a second defendant, a footballer and a friend of Mir. In his case, the Valencia court sentenced him to two years in prison after finding him guilty of sexual assault, crimes against moral integrity, and minor bodily harm.
The ruling, officially notified to the parties on Monday, is not final. The convicted individuals still have the right to appeal the decision before higher courts.
The court also established civil liability in the form of compensation. Rafa Mir was ordered to pay €64,000 to his victim, while the second convicted man must pay €6,280 to another complainant.
Mir is 28 years old. His contract is held by the Spanish club Sevilla. During the 2025–26 season, he played 29 matches for Elche across various competitions, scoring 8 goals.
