Former British PM talks about unequal COVID-19 vaccine distribution
The Global Baku Forum helps discuss topical global issues, said former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown during a speech at a regular panel meeting within the X Global Baku Forum on the theme "The structure of building a new global health care: advocacy, provision, protection, health promotion and actions in this direction" on March 10.
Despite the existence of a COVID-19 vaccine, in some countries only 1 in 4 people have access to it, he said, per Report.
“If we don’t vaccinate and take care of everyone equally, then this is a stain on our conscience. Better ways to secure funding need to be found. This is the only sound approach to prepare for the next challenges,” he added.
Brown noted that after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the world is facing a lack of energy resources and problems with food security.
“Countries spend more money on debt repayment than on healthcare. We need to deal with the consequences of the pandemic,” he said.
