29 January 2025 15:56

Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan have officially signed a roadmap aimed at expanding cooperation in the field of transport.

The announcement was made by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov during a press conference with his counterparts from Türkiye and Uzbekistan in Ankara, Caliber.Az reports.

Bayramov emphasized that the roadmap signing was part of broader efforts to enhance the countries' transport cooperation. He said, “Today, we discussed key issues concerning our strategic partnership and alliance. We exchanged views in the field of renewable energy and placed particular focus on the Middle Corridor. We also examined the transport potential of the region, covering the Caspian, Black, and Mediterranean Seas, alongside other regional matters.”

He further highlighted the importance of ongoing humanitarian efforts, stating, “Attention was paid to humanitarian aid projects in Afghanistan, carried out with the consent of the international community. The significance of the Trans-Afghan railway project was also underscored.”

Bayramov expressed gratitude for the participation of Turkish and Uzbek officials at COP29, noting the joint commitment to sustainable development and regional cooperation.

In the press conference, Bayramov reiterated the importance of honouring the ceasefire reached in Gaza, adding, “Azerbaijan supports a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.”

Regarding the situation in Syria, Bayramov remarked, “Positive developments in Syria will pave the way for new cooperation platforms between Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan.”

Trilateral declaration and future summits

The final declaration of the 2nd meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Economy/Trade, and Transport of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan was signed in Ankara. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan addressed the press with the announcement, confirming that the third trilateral meeting will take place in Azerbaijan.

Fidan also declared that Azerbaijan will host the 12th official summit of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), with an unofficial summit scheduled in Hungary.

Focus on economic cooperation

Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov also shared updates on the trilateral meeting held in Ankara.

In a post on social network X, he stated, “Together with our colleagues, we had the pleasure of attending the second trilateral meeting of the Foreign, Trade/Economy, and Transport/Infrastructure Ministers of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan in Ankara. Our discussions centred on strengthening economic cooperation, expanding mutual trade, fostering private sector involvement in new investment projects, and advancing digital transformation. We also outlined the next steps to further enhance our joint efforts.”
