Baku takes decisive steps to hold Armenia accountable for mass atrocities against Azerbaijani civilians
Azerbaijan has taken decisive measures to investigate and ensure accountability for mass atrocities and other crimes committed by Armenia during its aggression in the early 1990s and the nearly 30-year occupation of Azerbaijani territories.
Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the United Nations (UN), Tofiq Musayev, addressed the issue during an informal interactive dialogue at the UN General Assembly, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The session, titled "Protecting Human Dignity in Armed Conflict: Promoting Compliance with International Humanitarian Law," took place on January 28 and focused on upholding humanitarian law in conflict zones.
Musayev underscored that ignoring gross violations of the law, denying war crimes, and attempting to undermine justice through disinformation campaigns in the media, parliaments, and international organizations constitute blatant disrespect for international law and the rule of law.
He reiterated Azerbaijan’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims and holding those responsible to account.
According to him, attempts to shield perpetrators from accountability not only violate legal principles but also undermine efforts for sustainable peace and reconciliation in the region.
