UK appoints trade envoy to boost economic relations with Azerbaijan
The UK has appointed Lord John Alderdice, a distinguished member of the British House of Lords, as its new trade envoy to Azerbaijan and Central Asia.
The announcement, made by the UK Department for Trade and Business, is part of the government's broader efforts to enhance export and investment opportunities as part of its economic transformation plan, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Lord Alderdice, a prominent Northern Irish politician, brings with him a wealth of experience, having served as the Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly from 1998 to 2004. A member of the Liberal Democrats since 1996, he is a well-regarded figure in UK politics. In addition to his parliamentary role, Lord Alderdice is a fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and serves as Chairman and Director of the Centre for Democracy and Peace Building.
As part of a wider global development team, Alderdice will be among 32 newly appointed trade envoys tasked with boosting the UK's international trade footprint, with a focus on fostering economic growth and enhancing ties with key regions like Azerbaijan and Central Asia.
His appointment signals the UK’s commitment to strengthening trade relations and expanding its global influence.
