US grants visas to four Iran World Cup staff, 11 still barred

Four members of Iran’s World Cup delegation have successfully appealed decisions that initially denied them US visas, allowing them to travel with the team.

However, 11 other members of the delegation remain barred from entering the United States for matches scheduled to be played there, the BBC reports.

Last week, Iran criticised Washington for refusing visas to several key members of the national team’s support staff, despite US officials confirming that the players themselves had been cleared to participate in the tournament.

Amid concerns related to the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States, the Iranian team has already relocated its World Cup base to Mexico.
